I baked a homemade chocolate cake with homemade frosting for Mary's birthday celebration (and John drew her a picture). It's too bad that all my effort and love doesn't make the cake taste as good as a $2 junky ingredients mix in a box.
Chris and I gave Mary a small ragdoll.
John "giving" Mary a stuffed puppy (really from the grandparents). We seem to have lost some wonderful video footage of John wrapping a present from himself to Mary. We did not expect him to have any understanding of gift-giving, that this was Mary's birthday, and that he was not receiving any gifts himself. After we finished eating dinner, John went into the sideboard, found a crocheted doily, and slipped away. Chris found him "wrapping" one of the board books we already own in the doily. Then he found me and asked for tape, so we could tape Mary's present. He carried it ceremoniously into the dining room and set it down with Mary's other gifts. It was so precious! Amazingly, John showed virtually no envy of Mary's gifts and didn't throw a fit about wanting his own.
Happy Birthday, Mary! May you blessed with many more.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, the cake looks yummy! JOhn is precious! Isn't it wonderful to see such love for his sister?
Ashley
does that mean this is her *official* birthday!!!???
ReplyDeletewhen did THAT happen!!?
Katherine, she is so darn beautiful! I know you just give her such "squeezy hugs" as we call 'em :)
Shelly: Well, her grandmother said we couldn't have her "official" party until she could make it, which wasn't until today. So having cupcakes on Mary's real birthday last Thursday was "just for practice"!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Mary looks so happy with you all singing to her! And how neat that John did so well with her birthday! From a not-yet-three-year-old, I would've definitely expected some jealousy.
