We had a tiny birthday celebration after dinner at which we sang and ate store-bought cupcakes. In a few days, the gentlemen will return here and Grandmom will also come from Atlanta, and then we'll have the "real" party, with (I hope) homemade cake and Mary's gifts. Suffice it to say, Mary did very well with her first frosted cake!

Pop-Pops Visits for Mary's Birthday
Today Chris returned from a four-day business trip and Pop-Pops came to visit because tomorrow the two gentlemen are going to a family wedding for four days. What good timing because today is our precious girl's first birthday! Despite John knowing his Pop-Pops well and being thrilled to learn that he had arrived, John became extremely shy. He kept going to a different room than we were in, so we'd walk to his room and he'd skitter to another room. It took about 15 minutes before John told me that it would be okay if Pop-Pops came into the same room where he was. And, of course, Mary burst into tears when she saw this strange man in our den! But then the two of them warmed up and soon enough they were enthralled with Pop-Pops reading books to them.
