Playing

Mary finally found her way into John's cardboard box house (I found them with the door closed).

Remember when I tried to have John do a Montessori-style color sorting game using hair bands? It just didn't work well, but apparently John didn't have the right motivation. Today he asked for the hair bands, so I put them on the kitchen table and went about some kitchen work. Mary was napping in my Ergo on my back. John asked to put one white hair band on her ankle. They are quite loose-fitting and it wouldn't hurt her, so I said 'yes.' He kept flitting about me and I wasn't paying much attention, until I heard him mumbling to himself about "one more white one" and "one more black one." I looked down and he had put all the white hair bands on one of her ankles and all the black ones on her other! So, I guess he understands how to sort colors.

John was playing with matchbox cars on his bed when I overheard about two minutes of delightful imaginative talk about the ambulance coming, which was transporting the mama to give the injured party kisses, and then they would go to the hospital, etc. I started filming secretly outside his bedroom door and caught the tail end of his narration.
