Gingerbread Lane 2013

The festivities of the Christmas season begin!

On the feast of St. Stephen (Dec. 26), we attended a lovely dinner party. You know you're a bunch of practicing Catholics when (1) children outnumber adults and (2) it's totally normal to pause between dinner and dessert to pray the rosary together. On our way home, we tried to drive around seeing Christmas lights, but the children were so tired that they actually asked to be taken home!

On Friday, we visited Gingerbread Lane (a free event!) at a local posh hotel.

Eating lunch at a favorite pizza joint beforehand

Being incredibly cute

Following are photos of a few of my favorite gingerbread houses.

I think this one was my favorite!

It was positively a red letter day for John because in the evening Daddy took him (via the train, no less!) to a game with our local professional basketball team, as we were given tickets by someone who couldn't attend.

The basketball game gave our family a couple of good opportunities. First, it gave an overwhelmingly envious sibling a chance to learn that life isn't fair and, in big families, we couldn't possibly pass out special events equally to every single child. Sometimes one child will get to do something special, sometimes another child, and various factors will play into these decisions. Second, it gave John the opportunity to learn how not to boast or brag--which is so hard to resist!--because, if he did, he was going to lose the outing.

A grand time was had by the boys!
