When John was born, his godmother Loretta gave me several gifts, one of which was a little laminated prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary, complete with small, heart-shaped smiley stickers to appeal to small children. For a long time I had the prayer card taped above the diaper changing table so I would remember to say it with John each morning. The prayer is very sweet for small kids, especially since I always tickled John at "my whole self."
The card was temporarily misplaced in the move, but we recently found it again and John loves pointing to his body parts as we pray. Normally he is more animated and makes the sign of the cross, but he knew the camera was videotaping him, so he was a little stiff. Anyway, it absolutely melts my heart how he says the word "heart." Although he has long been able to point to at least a dozen body parts on request, "heart" is the first body part he has named verbally.
"Oh my Queen, oh my Mother, I love you and give myself to you. I give to you this day my eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, my whole self. Since I am yours, keep me and guard me as your child forever. Amen."
Oh my sweet baby John, I am so proud to hear you pray and give your heart to your Queen Mother. You are a picture of Jesus when He was your age and your dear mother is being ever faithful to give you the best when she prays with you! Your godfather and I pray for you every day! We are very excited that you will soon have a sibling to love and play with. I hope we can see you soon. Give kisses to mommy and daddy from us! Your godparent, Scott and Loretta Carter
ReplyDeleteI love it when Charlie sees an image of Our Lady [anywhere!] and says in his baby way: MairMee :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little prayer! I think I will take that little prayer and tradition and make it a part of our daily life, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the prayer and your little one with us.
Ashley
