He was posing goofy on purpose. I didn't take an "after" shot of his haircut because he dumped a cup of water on his head for fun and looked like a drowned rat (with shorter hair).
In other news, I've taught John to say "help" in order to cut down on his requests that consist of nothing more than a whiny grunt. So far, he hasn't figured out the universality of "help," so uses it only in two situations: when he wants me to turn on the light in the den in the morning ("den help") and when he wants me to bring down the heavy basket of books on the third shelf of his bookshelf. Just now he was playing in the sun room and I was halfway listening to his constant prattle. He was saying, "Mama. Uh-oh! Mama. Uh-oh!" I finally went out there and he needed me to put his shoe back on. I explained that this was an instance that he could say "help" and then I would know to come help him, then I had him practice. Soon we'll tackle "please," then "thank you"!
Ooooh, "please" and "thank you" are so fun! I was so pleased when we got Emma started on those. Now, whenever she starts demanding something, all I have to do is quietly look at her with my arms folded, and she slows down, stops and softly says "peeeeaaassss."
