Saturday 7/5 in California

On Saturday morning I met my childhood friend Alea at a local park where Davis hosts its biweekly Farmer's Market. Alea is an OBGYN in San Francisco with a two-and-a-half-year-old son, so the adults had fun talking birthy stuff and the toddlers had fun bumbling around the playground.

Then we met my dad and sister at friend Lynn's house for a lunch of Togo's sandwiches--subway sandwiches in California which I anticipate all year long! John loved running around the backyard, with its multi-level deck and uneven brick walkways. Unfortunately, his pregnant mama was very, very tired from having to shadow John everywhere he went because of the many hazards to a toddler (and she was very grateful when Grandpa would take over for a while). You can see in the photos where he is looking for Lynn's kitty Houdini (WHERE "meow!") and hunting for praying mantises with his cousin. It was dreadfully hot, so after we moved indoors, John played ball with Grandpa and Maddie.
