Communication
Today I thought it would be fun and interesting to try to tally the signs and words John uses. I poked around online to learn what was average (and John is nice and average). I was amazed to see that the average 18-month-old speaks 5-20 words, but the average 24-month-old speaks 150-300 words! That explains why I sense a cognitive explosion in John right now. Often he opens the page to a book and asks me for the labels for every picture he sees, even though he can't repeat back the words yet.

You're so funny to carefully specify how he is not telling you no.
ReplyDeleteChristina doesn't do it yet either except for answering yes/no questions and imitating a sibling.
She imitated Soren saying "mine" the other day and I think said it one more time after that! I hate when they finally learn that one!
Neat! I've been thinking about doing the same thing on my site.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny John's word for car and keys are the same, because Emma did that too...only she used "beep."
Sarah: Well, I'm specifying that John isn't saying "no" to use yet because I find it so fascinating that he isn't. I guess I thought toddlers said "no" sooner than this, but perhaps not if even Christina isn't saying "no" to yet and she has three older siblings to imitate!
ReplyDeleteBut she will answer yes/no questions by saying "yes" or "no"? Wow, John doesn't do that yet. I'm impressed.
