Morning Star Girls' Camp 2022

Our girls Mary (13) and Margaret (11) were fortunate to attend Morning Star Girls' Camp last week. The New Hampshire camp lasts seven days and the girls took two days to drive up and two days to drive back, so this was by far the longest I've ever been separated from them.

Four girls from the local area were attending camp, so one of the set of parents graciously agreed to escort the kids there and back while the rest of us just covered travel costs. We were so grateful!

One lunch stop was a historic graveyard that turned out to house some of our family's ancestors.

Mostly scenic picnic stops on both drives, very little fast food!

Morning Star Camp is run by fully habited Catholic nuns whose order celebrates only the traditional Latin Mass. They have an absolutely beautiful camp property which serves camps for young girls, older girls, young boys, and older boys on alternating weeks. (When the boys are at camp, the brothers/monks and volunteer fathers run camp.)

Apparently my girls remained barefoot most of the week at camp, just like they do in the neighborhood at home.

The daily schedule kept the girls busy with activities, catechism, campfires, singing, sports, and meals.

Our daughters had a fabulously good time and are all abuzz about how "of course" they are going back next year because "they simply must!" John has attended in years past, and would like to return, and Joseph sure would like to start attending when he is old enough next year. We will have to see how we can manage getting four kids to three separate weeks of camp that is 15 hours' drive away from us! That might take a small miracle from Our Lady!

  1. What a very small world! I've been reading your blog for several years now. My daughter Grace Bush arrived home from Morning Star camp today. It turns out, she served as the counselor in Mary and Margaret's cabin! I was reading a card that the campers in her cabin signed and I recognized their names right away! Grace asked me to tell you how much she enjoyed having them in her cabin. My other daughter Cecilia was attending camp as well and she exclaimed "Oh yes! They are my friends!" :)

  2. Hello Mrs. Bush! Please tell Grace that she was the best counselor in the world and we miss her reading to us very much! <3 I was lonely finishing St. Isaac Jogues at home. :'( Also, tell Cecilia that we miss her and are glad we met her 'cause she's really fun to hang out with! I hope we'll see them both next year.
