On Tuesday, we enjoyed a Presidents' Day Homeschooling Event at Latta Plantation with some friends.
"Join us for a new event! Celebrate our heritage when you visit and learn about John Hanson and the 4 other early American presidents! Make a craft and enjoy the site. We will have various living history demonstrations and activities. Admission is $6 per person, ages 4 and under free."
The farm presentation lasted an entire hour and was very informative! We learned much about horses, mules, and donkeys.
You know you're in the South when . . . the farmer giving the presentation asked, "Does anyone know what the most important thing a donkey ever carried was? Jesus . . . and his mother Mary!"
I grew up with a beautiful, giant fig tree in my front yard, so this tree was beautiful to me. |

There were remaining snow fields from last week, which provided much fun for the children. This photo was taken moments before Margaret skated down the hill and landed right in a puddle of snow-cold water.
The children visited five stations around the plantation, where they learned about Presidents Adams, Madison, Washington, and Jefferson.

The children ended the day with at least an hour of skating on the icy snow, then building a teepee. We spent the whole day at Latta and didn't get home till 4:30, a grand time being had by all!
