Picnic at the Park

I seem continually to be offering carrots and threatening sticks to keep our homeschool running smoothly. Last week, a stick: a child dragged out a ten-minute lesson for more than one hour, thus there was not enough time for us to do our duties before the planned field trip. Field trip cancelled. (Lesson learned, plus bonus points because all children lost the field trip as a result, and the other sibling then used peer pressure in the following days: "Do your work, I don't want us to lose out on XYZ!")

Today, a carrot: If we finish our school work on time and with cheerful attitudes, we will pack a picnic for lunch and go to the neighborhood park!

Eating lunch at the park: anywhere other than the kitchen table is always thrilling!

Just before her fifth birthday, Mary is strong enough to do the monkey bars--there and back!

The two-year-old is in a phase of wearing a backpack anywhere and everywhere she can.

Meanwhile, I relished this short phase when my baby (9 months) will happily sit in a wagon and play with straps--instead of crawling all over the playground--so I could sit and read a book in the gorgeous fall weather.
