A Girls' Weekend

While Daddy took John on a father-son Camping With Christ weekend (a post on that to follow!), we had a girls' weekend at home. Mary assured me, "It's okay if Joseph is with us for our girls' weekend."

Mid-day conversation:

Mama: "Mary, are you hungry for lunch?"

Mary: "No, I'm not hungry yet."

Mama: "Oh. I was going to take you girls to McDonald's as a treat."

Mary: "Yes, I am hungry for McDonald's! What I meant was that I was not hungry for your cooking!"

Yes, kind of a theme around here. It's moments like that that I simply must tell myself (lest I cry): "Clearly I must have a serious problem with pride and if God (who only works for the good of our souls) didn't give me some Big Failings, like cooking with which I get to disappoint my children three to five times per day, then my pride might drag me straight to hell."

Those who are horrified that I take the children to McDonald's on occasion might benefit from watching comedian Jim Gaffigan's 9-minute bit on this fast food joint (forewarning of a few swear words).

After dinner we made Shrinky Dinks jewelry, which had been Mary's only special request for our Girls' Weekend.

If you see me in public wearing childish Shrinky Dinks barrettes, you'll know it's because my four-year-old girl asked me with her big brown eyes if I was going to wear "the beautiful jewelry she made me," to which I could give only one answer.

  1. No judgment here on fast food! When my husband was out of town for over a week, we got Chinese one night and Wendy's another.

Glad you were able to spend that time with your young ladies!
