Grace

Chris and I have long tried to be consistent about not eating before we pray grace before meals--even if we're stumbling about every other kind of prayer at times. So, this morning I set down the kids' food at the table and asked them to wait to eat as I stepped back to get one more item. Then I sat down and started eating my toast. The kids just sat there staring at me. Finally John asked cautiously, "Can I eat?" I said, "Of course . . . oh wait! Did we not pray?" He told me that we had not prayed, so we quickly fixed that situation. I love how the kids waited to thank God!

  1. That's great!!
Every night, after we pray and begin eating, one of the kids invariably asks, "Wait, did we pray yet?"
There's always someone who is daydreaming and not paying attention! Ha ha.

  2. How sweet that they waited for you. When I'm taking too long my little man leads his sister in prayer without me, leaving me to pray alone. ;)

    What blessed lives we live.

  3. This is something our kids seem to be relatively well trained on... to the point that they will say their own blessing before everyone is seated and will sometimes do a quick, mumbled, semi-silent rendition of the prayer and exclaim "Eat now!?"
