Peach Nightgown

I buy "knots" of end-of-bolt fabric at a discount because I make bloomers for Mary to wear beneath her dresses. They don't match her dresses exactly, but they coordinate in colors and that is good enough for me. I made her a new pair of bloomers yesterday and had enough fabric left over to make another pair of bloomers . . . or, it occurred to me, a nightgown!

I grabbed one of Mary's nightgowns and a piece of chalk and proceeded to sketch out on the new fabric a pattern of sorts. I didn't have enough fabric for sleeves, so a tank-style nightgown was in order.

I found a cute flower button in my stash, as well as some sweet pink lace for the edging to make the nightgown a little less plain.

When Mary came home from errands with Daddy, she tried on the new nightgown and was pleased with it. (It fits her a little tightly around the chest. It will probably fit Margaret wonderfully about 18 months from now.) Then we had to leave for a party, so I had to clarify that it was a nightgown and not a party dress! Come time for actual bedtime, Mary refused to wear the new nightgown, exclaiming, "No! I don't like it!" (And it sounded kind of like this: "I! DON'T! LIKE! IT!") My feelings were not as hurt this time at her reaction because I know her two-year-old emotions are capricious at best.
