Terrific Tempera

We've gotten by for these several years with perhaps two purchases of cheap watercolor paints from the grocery store. This week I purchased 12 big bottles of tempera paint, ten spill-proof paint pots, and matching chubby paint brushes. This caused great excitement.

After a few minutes of frantically trying to keep up with the children switching colors and brushes ("don't mix! don't mix!"), and my wondering how on earth preschool teachers manage paint like this, Chris and I figured out a system: pair each brush in each pot and the kids grab each set as a unit. This caused all the mixing of paints to stop immediately, which was so great.
