Miscellaneous Photos

Miscellaneous photos from the last few days . . .

As long as I can tolerate the mess, allowing the children to dig through my neatly sorted containers of Scarves, Hats, and Gloves in the hall closet keeps them entertained for significant stretches of time each day. On this particular day, John insisted on wearing his sweatshirt, knit cap, and mittens outside to play, even though it was surely over 70 degrees.

John asked to play with the foam shapes on this day and it had been quite a while since he'd played with them. He showed a remarkable leap in geometric comprehension, startling me when he called me over to see what he was doing and he was filling in the shapes just right, even when they weren't demarcated by black lines or when they were at an angle.

A happy smile!

On Saturday, Charlotte held its Eucharistic Congress. Chris was asked to volunteer as an escort for the day to one of the speakers: Dr. Ray Guarendi! I thought that was neat and very fun, but it also meant it was a lot harder for me to join in the activities with both kids in tow. I decided to wait till after the kids had napped, then take the train downtown rather than drive my own vehicle and battle 10,000 cars there for the Congress (in addition to cars of people attending another conference and a sports game, within a block). The kids just love riding the train!

After Chris bought the earlier tent, we sorted through our camping supplies and discovered that we already owned a tent, handed down from an aunt. So we set it up to see if it was still in good shape and we could return the other tent. Here John is excitedly telling me about a scene in the movie of St. Bernadette, which he got to watch from inside the tent.

John found our game of jacks and insisted I teach him how to do it (even though I knew he was nowhere near old enough). The kids had fun doing their own version of the game that mostly involved putting the jacks into the bag, then out of the bag, over and over again, while the other child threw the bouncy ball around the room.
