I love that little cherry outfit. She looks so much like John!! How is John handling everything? I am already having visions of Benjamin crying at my feet while I take care of a new baby! Maybe when you are all up and about again you can do a post about John and the new baby!!?
How do you sleep at all? She's just so beautiful, it must be hard to even close your eyes for a second. But then again, I imagine that just holding her close and smelling her is just as good as looking at her and allows for you to fall asleep for a while. :)
I know that at first I thought she looked like Katherine, but that second shot is definitely Chris with a little girlish softening. :)
I am just thrilled to pieces for y'all. Thanks for sharing with all of us!
Rebecca: The cherries are from when John was new. I had a few hand-me-downs for girls. Then on Day 2, my MIL kindly went out for me to the fabulous Once Upon a Child to buy some girl NB outfits for Mary.
Jamie: There *will* be times when ~18-m.o. Ben is crying with a legitimate need while the newborn is crying and you won't be able to help both simultaneously. :( I'm trying to focus on the aspects of siblings that are a gift, but I know I'll have days when I'm crying too.
John was stand-offish to Mary on Day 1, not that he is effusive now, but he acknowledges her. He has done a few cute things, like bring her (his big) socks to wear. Right now he is eating treats, watching lots of TV, Grandmom is visiting, and he has no routine. It is fun, but he is also hyperactive and his emotions are running high. I expect to see more reality next week. I expect some tough transition times.
OK I went back into your archives to do a comparison between John and Mary. The coloring is so different, and it is difficult to compare babies with a TWO POUND discrepancy ;) So right now, I have to say they look very different. However, they have similar noses and mouths. It might be easier to compare as she ages a bit and we can compare when they are of similar size. But bottom line, cute!!
I agree with Elaine. I also went back into your archives, and I see some similarities between Mary and John, but their coloring is very different, as is the entire shape of their faces. But it will be easier to tell as Mary gets older. It's so interesting to me how different facial features develop over time...when Leo was born I didn't see any of myself in him...he looked totally 100% like Ben to me. Now if you look at a picture of me as a toddler and one of Leo at his age now, there's no denying who his mama is!
Oh!!!! She is SO BEAUTIFUL KATHERINE!!! SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE JOHN TO ME!
ReplyDeleteAwwwe.
Congratulations to all of you! Mary Genevieve looks healthy and robust- what a big little sister John has!

I like the outfit. Did you already go on your shopping spree? I didn't notice that outfit in the "In Case it's a Girl" post.

I see everyone thinks Mary looks like John, but I see quite a bit of you in her, Katherine. Either way, she is just a gorgeous, sweet little doll!!
ReplyDeleteShe is really beautiful. I think she looks like John, too.
