Today I was feeling so good that we went to a restaurant (one mile away) for dinner! Mary did not mind her first car ride. Of course, neither did John, but then he screamed bloody murder for every ensuing car ride for six months.
New car seat arrangement for our two kids!
The only thing missing was a margarita!
Mary slept in my Maya wrap through the whole dinner.
John is currently learning how to smile on cue for the camera. This is how he does it (squinch eyes, wrinkle nose, throw back head):
Five days into this new venture, I'm seeing Mary's current pattern. She sleeps a lot, way more than John ever did. Mary has alternating periods of a couple of hours of deep sleep in which I can even put her down to sleep alone, periods of a couple hours of light sleep and cluster nursing, and three or four periods of about 45 minutes each of alert wakefulness. Mary has cried almost not at all in her first five days--as in, fewer than five minutes combined per day. I have been getting one long stretch of three to four hours of sleep each night, which I consider outright luxurious. Even if this doesn't last, I am so grateful for Mary's calm, sleepy temperament during my immediate postpartum recovery.
You look so happy, Katherine! Mary is beautiful, and I am happy she is content. John looks like he's as happy as ever.
ReplyDeleteFewer than five minutes of crying a day?! My gosh, the luxury indeed!! I seriously can't even imagine it, but I'm so glad for you! :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have the same car seat as you have for Mary. Isn't it great? Love it, love it, love it!!
Congratulations, Katherine!! What beautiful, glorious children!! I am glad to hear that you are doing well and the next time you're in Sacramento, I hope you'll let me get you that margarita! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am betting her temprament will last! This is how Ben was. He only cried when necessary (hungry, wet, cold). I think he cries more now than when he was a little baby!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful and I am glad all is going well!
Babies who are calm and actually sleep are amazing. She's beautiful and the whole family looks great!
ReplyDeleteI know I haven't answered your question, but it can be a long answer and I'm debating whether or not to put it in my blog! :-)
You look wonderful, Katherine! And so does little Miss Mary. Sounds like you all are truly blessed. I admire how you're not taking any of the blessings for granted, though, since you are very aware of how things can change. Come what may, you'll press on in God's grace!
ReplyDeleteCathleen: I never could have imagined it either. And, seriously, I sat there debating whether to write five minutes of crying total or more like two minutes. But, I'm trying not to get too attached to this because she might just be a sleepy newborn who will show a more energetic personality later.
