You Know You're Tired When

You know you're tired when you watch your baby shredding a paper napkin on the floor because (a) it's keeping him occupied and (b) you don't want to get up for the zillionth time that day. John had such a fun time with his napkin, but in the end I do not think it saved me any energy to let him have it because he shredded it into 44 pieces (I counted) which I had to pick up from across the entire kitchen floor.
I so enjoyed my monthly La Leche League meeting on Wednesday, where I was once again reminded that John is within the range of normal for the rate at which he is proceeding into eating solids and he is a chunky, healthy boy. Also, I was reminded of an idea of Dr. William Sears for helping toddlers eat, as they are often busily on the go-go-go exploring their worlds. I used a miniature muffin tin (one could use an ice cube tray), filled it with snack foods (carrot wagon wheel, Os cereal, cheddar cheese, goldfish, dried applies, and added diced bananas after the photo below was taken), and left it on the kitchen table after showing it to John. Throughout the day he kept returning to it and pointing to a little tidbit he wanted to eat (most often the darned goldfish!). He also ate from the tray at lunch and dinner.

  2. I now share in your bane with the goldfish, Katherine! I never have them around the house, because frankly, I don't like them. But Emma and I met up with some friends at the park yesterday, and they had goldfish crackers with him (my friend's 12 month old son only eats goldfish too!)...Emma LOVED them. She then proceeded to feed them to me (ack!). Guess she thought they were SO GOOD she just had to share with Mama.

  3. Janeane: I hope Emma hadn't done you the favor of pre-tasting the fish she then tried to put in your mouth. Ew!

  4. Thankfully, they were not pre-tasted, but dry and fresh from the bag. :)
