Our sweet boy before Mass:
Today we went shopping for a Christmas tree. Our favorite family-run tree farm was already out of stock because, you know, we're one of the very late tree shoppers because it is "only" nine days until Christmas (which goes for at least 12 days and, arguably, 40 days, after that!). (Yes, this is one of my pet peeves.) Driving home through a rural area from our failed mission we came across a nursery that was still selling trees. It was bitterly cold today (felt about 30 degrees) and we forgot our gloves!
Before heading home, my sweetheart took us to dinner. John was a trooper, munching on a piece of bread for a good ten minutes, sampling fettuccine alfredo, and making good progress on a piece of chicken parmesan.
After consulting with other mothers about how they handled the exciting combination of a Christmas tree and a 12-month-old, we decided to take the route of putting the tree beyond the baby gate, but near to the living room so we can actually see it. John became very worked up watching me decorate and wouldn't stop hooting. We think that bringing a tree into the house is probably the most exciting thing that has ever happened in his little life!
What fun! The tree looks stunning!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish our house was set up so that we could have our tree out of reach, yet still visible! Our poor tree is looking a bit goofy these days. Little Miss LOVES to pick off the ornaments, as well as add her own touches (ribbon, books, small stuffed animals).
ReplyDeleteThe top half is still nicely decorated, but the bottom half looks like a small child's art project (which actually, is quite cute).
Rebecca: Thanks!
ReplyDeleteJaneane: Yes, I debated doing a table-top tree or just putting the tree where John could get it and working on training him. But I took the third route. I train him on so many issues, I just really didn't want to tackle this one! I'd love to see a photo of your tree with Emma's handiwork on the bottom half. So cute!
ReplyDeleteCharlie is so funny w/the tree. He'll look at me with a big smile as he's pointing to an ornament...he'll sometimes just make his excited "ckckckck [radio static sound]" sound or he'll gently tug at an ornament or, depending on his mood, he'll grab on off, and throw it on the floor and break a piece off LOL!! Must've missed that one! We *try* to keep all the breakable, glass ones *up*. The kids decorate the tree though, so some - at that time - hadn't been moved up. i really love watching them [babies] with the tree. [seeing what they can get away with!!]
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!
