Chris teases me good-naturedly about how I like to put up more than one Christmas tree. In addition to the main, real tree, I have several small faux trees with themes. Below is my Harvest Tree which is decorated only with ornaments of fruits and vegetables to remind me of my hopes of a bountiful new year. (Cue snickering from everyone who thinks that's goofy.)
I am starting a new theme tree of the nativity ornaments. So far we have Mary, Jesus, a cow, and St. Francis de Sales (he's there just to keep Mary company for now). Also, you can see my "Lisa" (my mom) and "Katherine" wooden angels, which we've had for probably 25 years now.
Our Fontanini nativity set is on the mantle, out of baby's reach (not that he could break them, but that he'd scatter them as many times as I could set them right again). My aunt generously gave us this set, which she'd been accumulating for years, now that her son is grown; the resin pieces are great for children because they are unbreakable.
I think having more than one tree is a lovely idea! And I like that they have themes. My Mom does the same thing, although she only has one "extra" tree.
ReplyDeleteAnd your nativity brings back some fond memories. It's quite similar to the one my Grandma always set up when I was littl. She still gets so much joy from telling the tale of my Grandfather quizzing a 3 year old me on who everyone was, and me calling the three wise men the "wise guys." Guess Grandpa laughed so hard at that he had to sit down.
I love the idea of lots of trees. My dad has one for each grandchild and great-grandchild (11!)---and most of them are 5+ feet!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tree is our Jesse tree that we put up at the beginning of Advent. The ornaments are made of bread dough and it's decorated with 3 purple and one rose ribbon. Our real tree goes up on Gaudete Sunday.
Sara: Your dad's trees sound delightful!
