My alarm went off at 4:00 but I had been awake most of the night anyway because what's a cross-country travel day without nerves and tension having kept you up all night?
Dad very kindly met us at the rental car return at 5:30 so he could help us board the bus and get our luggage checked in. I was so grateful.
The flight home was tiring but otherwise uneventful and we even had time during the layover for food.
We watched two films, "Itzhak," a documentary about Itzhak Perlmen that had both my violinist and my non-violinist gripped, and "Apollo 11," a 2019 documentary that uses solely archival footage, with no re-enactments or commentary. The Apollo movie enthralled my 12-year-old son! My husband and I both wondered why this movie wasn't produced much earlier since such wonderful footage existed.
We arrived home to cheers and gifts: an orchid for Mary, an aloe plant for John, chocolates for me, and a sentimental card for us all.
It's good to be at home, sweet home.
