This week's book basket |
Story books in the den |
While almost all the children's books are kept in the school room, I keep a selection of story books in the den so that it is easy to pick up and read a story in quiet moments (e.g., meal times, transition moments, while Mama is washing dishes and children are waiting to pray the rosary). Story books on our shelf:
Mother Goose
James Herriot's "Treasury for Children"
"The Book of Children's Classics"
Randolph Caldecott's Picture Books
"Saints and Heroes" by Andrew Lang
"Uncle Wiggly's Story Book"
Here I also keep any chapter books we are reading (currently: "The Trumpet of the Swan" by E.B. White and "The Horse and His Boy" by C.S. Lewis).
I'm curious about your thoughts about "The Horse and His Boy." The children had a hard time focussing on it. In fact we are 2 chapters shy of finishing and we haven't picked it up in a while.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know.....big heads mean big brains! I'll bet you have a bibliophile on your hands!
Ashley: Funny you should say that! We have been dragging through "Horse and His Boy" for months. It just doesn't seem to grab the kids. I'm trying to get through it but I have been tempted to skip to the next book in the series.
