Thomas was discharged home in the late afternoon of Day 3 in the
hospital. When he was feeling good today, he made art, listened to me read stories, watched My
Octopus Teacher with me, and charmed the nurses. When he was feeling
awful today, he curled up in a ball with his emesis bowl.
We and the surgical team have a plan
to get him through this week . . . six more days till Surgery Day. He isn't
doing very well with food by mouth right now, so I'll be putting even more
effort into allowing only safer foods, not riskier foods. I can feed him more
via tube, which he is tolerating well; I can hydrate him via tube; and I can medicate him if the retching
gets out of control again. I suspect Thomas will be sticking pretty close to
home this week.
One of Chris's coworkers dropped off
this fun Mickey Mouse hat for Thomas today . . .
. . . so, of course, I had to ask my Dad to find the photo of me wearing just such a hat at nearly the same age!
And now that the family is reunited, Chris opened his
birthday gifts and cards!
