Rain, Rain, Go Away (Day #68 Phase I)

Thursday, Day #68 Phase I of Reopening

We request continued prayers for my husband's mother D. She is recovering, now in a long-term, acute care facility, from COVID-19 and hasn't been home in seven weeks.

I did not take photos again for a second day! How unusual of me!

It's been raining cats and dogs for several days, local lakes are overflowing, and rivers are flooding. My brain has been overflowing with preparations for Joseph's upcoming First Holy Communion, for which I have less than two weeks to prepare the pragmatic details.

  1. Here’s my understanding about masks and respirators. The number 85, 95, 100 etc as with all filters indicates the efficiency in blocking breathing in particles in the air. Obviously a higher number/rating will filter out smaller particles. This has to do with the filtering ability of the material that the mask/respirator is made of. Obviously a mask that fits tightly like the N95 or N100 respirators offers the most protection. A generic hospital mask, like the blue ones that loop around the ears or a medical grade cloth masks (high thread count) filter out less about 85% but are still protective. However my understanding is that viruses are attached to larger water particles that can be blocked by a good mask. These masks types need to fit snugly to work best. I’ve seen some people tie the two loops with a band or ribbon behind the neck. Hope this helps. Therese

PS Wearing a good mask not only protects oneself but others. If for no other reason, we should wear them to protect others at least for now.
