Latta Plantation: Underground Railroad

A Ride on the Underground Railroad & Valentines History

Students will be able to take part in a one-of-a-kind scavenger hunt as they take a hypothetical 'ride' on the Underground Railroad. Students, in small groups guided by chaperones (parents), will follow clues which reveal the students identity and potential fate while fleeing towards Canada. Students will meet an Overseer, learn about slavery, meet a Conductor, collect food & necessities for the journey, and perhaps encounter some dangers along the way.  This interactive day is perfect for school aged children. An private collection of vintage Valentines Day cards and history will be available for youngsters to enjoy inside of the Latta house. Young children will have the opportunity to meet the Latta farm animals including Kyle & Kylie our very friendly, and rambunctious, brown lambs!
NO reservations needed. This is a drop-in on-going day of activities- come and go as you please but feel free to enjoy our historic site while you visit! Dress appropriately for outdoor activities.
