The Be Not Afraid 5K

Yup. That's us. Chris and I just finished Week 4 of the Couch-to-5K program.

Week 5 is when the training program goes from "Sure, I can do this, although eating brownies is more fun" to "I think this might actually kill me," so I figured I'd better post about this now.

Will we see any of our local friends at the Be Not Afraid 5K in October? (See here for details.) God willing, jogging oh-so-slowly or walking, I'll be there supporting one of my favorite ministries!

  1. I did C25K earlier this year, and it really works great! There were a few weeks I had to repeat, because I just couldn't "get there." But once I completed it, I've found running 3 miles is a breeze. I've since done a 10K, and tomorrow I'm running a 5.9 trail race. Have fun!!!

  2. Janeane: I remember your doing it! Thanks for the support, we need it. Chris is doing better than I am. This week we ran as long as 5 minute straight but next week we run 20 minutes straight! I have NO IDEA how that is going to happen.

  3. The 20min run is where I got stuck for a little while. I had to keep reminding myself that I was just a few months postpartum, AND nursing (and pushing, uh hem, 40), so of course it wasn't going to just happen as if I was still in my early 20s! So cut yourself a little slack, especially when you start comparing your progress with your hubby's. He didn't just go through pregnancy and childbirth. Try not to be perfect, and if you have to walk at some point during that 20min interval, just do so, then try again the next day to run the entire 20min.

I remember being SO frustrated with it, because I was a cross country runner and could do a sub-6min mile in my prime. There's NO way I'll be there again in my life, but I'm pretty happy with what I am capable of now.

Just stick with you...you'll do great!

  5. Janeane: Thanks for the encouragement! That means a lot to me. Yes, four babies and childbirth and pushing, ahem, 40 does a number on a person.
