Basking in the Sun
Last week Mary had a strange fever-and-sore throat illness for three days, during which she was a quiet, docile little patient on the couch while John was full of his typical high energy. (Until he got the fever a few days later!) So one afternoon I sent John outdoors to play while I stayed in supervising Mary and Margaret: "Dear, go get out some of your energy!"
I watched him outside the kitchen window as I did cooking and dishwasher chores. He built several inventions, used his hammer, climbed the tree, rode his bike . . .
. . . and then he curled up in the sun and took a nap in the grass! I bet it felt very good and I miss having the lack of self consciousness that allows a person to lie down in the soft grass outdoors and nap in the sunlight.
