NASCAR with Daddies

On Saturday, Chris planned to take the children to a free observation day at the NASCAR track so that I could go shopping and clean the house by myself. Spontaneously he thought to call our friend J--- to ask if he wanted to come along with his two girls. Well, my husband ended up reaching J---'s wife instead, who promptly and cheerfully said that yes, her husband wasn't home, but he was being signed up by his wife for this wonderful outing!

The two dads and four kids had a great time and were gone all day. Who knew I could have such fun shopping for a vacuum of all things and doing a very successful Toy Reduction? I was positively giddy. The other wife in question also got to have a day to herself to shop, and we both laughed about how it's now "an easy day to ourselves" to have just the baby, when a mere few years ago, having one (firstborn) baby with us was really hard.

Mary's first description upon arriving home to me was, "It was loud."

Going by several birthdays that are happening within mere weeks, the kids in the group are 3, 4, 5, and 6, all almost exactly one year apart--so they really have fun together.

Then the evening ended up being fun too! The gentlemen arrived home to me cooking dinner and so we invited J---'s family to stay for dinner, J---'s wife to join us after her own relaxing shopping trip. Spontaneous good times!

  1. Not to be a downer, or anything, as I'm glad you had a good day and fun dinner with friends, but ear protection would be a good thing next time! They're awfully little to have their hearing damaged by those loud cars.

Just so you know, I probably wouldn't have thought of it either, except that my BIL has done those things with his daughter and she's always worn earphones.

  2. Sara: I think you're right! I didn't think of it till Daddy came home and Mary told me how loud it was.

  3. Now that I think of it, I'll bet the parish Christmas party and the St. Patrick's Day party fall into the same catergory!
