St. Patrick's Parish Picnic 2011

Today we attended the parish picnic of our local cathedral, having first attended this event last year.

One thing nice was that last year I had a brave, climbing 20-month-old to chase after, so I was constantly on the move. This year I have a very competent climbing 2-1/2 year old about whom I felt quite relaxed, so I got to sit in the shade with my infant most of the time.

Interestingly, the water slide was not at all as popular with John this year as last. And we thought Mary would love it but she didn't! They did the slide three times, rather reluctantly, and that was the end of that.

This dome was six feet high and Mary climbed it for something like 45 minutes. A couple of times she hung from the top of it, let go with her hands, and thumped to the ground, perfectly happy.

"I'm a good climber, Mama!"

"I am a turtle."

Formula: Eight o'clock Mass + breakfast at a restaurant + walking around the neighborhood in the noon heat for an hour and a half with visiting auntie + no nap + three hours hard playing at parish picnic = early bedtime and instantly falling asleep!

  1. I love Mary dangling from the play structure :-) I often struggle with uncharitable feelings towards other mothers at the park who feel the need to express more concern for my children's safety than I do. Ugh.

  2. We have a dome climber like that in our backyard. I love it for the challenge it provides, but I still find it a nail biter at times!

The picnic looks so much fun!
