The children did surprisingly well during the quiet, intimate baptismal ceremony (20-25 people in attendance). John behaved nearly perfectly and needed correction only to stop shushing his sister so loudly. Mary was a little louder and I hope the baptism wasn't being videotaped because then one will forever hear in the background things like a loud, cheerful, "Hi Daddy! Hi Daddy!" coming from my daughter.
At one point during the baptism, the group had moved from the narthex to the church proper, and I stayed on the edge of the narthex with the kids so we'd be quieter. I noticed John wander over to the candles, kneel down on the marble, fold his hands, and pray. So when he was done I walked over just in time to help him light a candle, which he was doing on his own. He told me he prayed, so I asked him what he prayed: "A hail Mary." And who did you pray for? "For Mary and for you." Melt a mama's heart!

Our little friend Teresa, three months younger than Mary, was also at the baptism.
Katherine, those photos are adorable. We are both honored and thrilled you were able to join us. John is too precious praying for Mary and his mama. That does melt a mama's heart doesn't it?!

It's hard to tell in these pix, but that baptismal garment is gorgeous! Now neat for it to be made from Mommy's wedding gown!!! And John, what a sweet little boy.
ReplyDeleteShelly: Thanks so much! I still haven't gotten over Mary's pigtails. Welcome back to cyberspace!
