Airplane Tray Cover 2

Today I sewed my second airplane tray cover. I didn't really intend for the two to come out seemingly designed for a girl and a boy," but they rather did.

For this one, the foundation cloth was actually an old drapery from IKEA that was handed down to me to use for sewing. The drapery is a burnt orange color, so I highlighted it with yellow and green fabrics.

I created a green snail pillow, stuffed with a plastic grocery bag to make an interesting crinkly sound. It tucks into a yellow pocket, with buttons sewn on for a toddler to pick at (you know how they like to pick).

I had a clear plastic envelope, the perfect size for holding a holy card (or whatever), so I sewed that on.

In the upper right corner is a strip of Velcro, sewn on to a little patch of fabric decorated with dragonflies. Below that is a wooden Franciscan cross that the child can swing around, left to right.

I attached a strip of snaps, which should provide a good challenge to fine motor skills.

On the hanging flap are two pockets made of the green snail fabric.

  1. Ooh I like that one a lot! How creative. Did you put the snaps on the strip yourself or were you able to buy a strip premade?

  3. I want to play with this one! ;)

You have done fabulous work: creativity + sewing skill. Bravo! The plastic sleeve will be good for slipping in a photograph if you're going to visit someone the child doesn't know well yet.

  6. You are all so kind, thank you. I wouldn't want to start any kind of Etsy business, though. I couldn't handle the pressure!
