Safari in April

We realized that we haven't been to our local "safari" in months, such that last time we went Mary was so young that she was pretty clueless. We knew she'd be excited now at almost 17 months to see all the animals and we were right! We drove along the little dirt road very slowly, with Mary and me in the back of the van, and John up front with Daddy.

I think this is gorgeous wild wisteria that I see draping from the trees all over Charlotte.

Feeding the giraffes

Petting the goats

You'll hear John say that the manager said it was okay for us to pet the goats. At least a year ago, I started telling John that many rules came from "the manager" in order to displace authority off of me so he wouldn't be so reactive every time I told him "no." For example, "the grocery store manager says we can't throw food on the floor" or "the restaurant manager says we can't yell." (This approach works in so many ways! "The police officers say that children have to ride in car seats.") Anyway, that is the reason that John references "the manager"--that godlike authority--who says we may pet the goats.

The safari has a playground shaped like Noah's Ark.

John is all ready for his old man years: check out his navy blue socks worn with his sandals!

  1. This looks like so much fun! You must share where it is so we can go when God willing we have our little one home. :-) Loved the videos and great idea for the manager concept with John!

  2. Great post - looks/sounds like a fun visit! I also enjoy pointing out the wisteria draping everywhere. I don't recall it being so abundant in years past, but maybe I just wasn't noticing. Anyway, I hope it's not hurting the trees it hangs on.

And, for the record, I like wearing socks and sandals. It embarrasses David, though, so I try to limit how often I go out in public that way. ;)

  3. That safari look so wonderful! If we had something similar here, I'm quite sure we'd be frequent visitors. And with a playground, to boot--Theo would be in seventh heaven!
