Holy Saturday 2010

After John made an Easter card for the Poor Clare nuns who have recently moved to the empty convent on our parish property, we took a little PB&J picnic to church and ate lunch on a bench.

Then we went in for the Blessing of Food, which is a delightful, child-friendly (but not hokey) 15-minute event.

Our friendly deacon, to be ordained a priest in two months, performed the blessing. We had made an additional basket for the Poor Clares, so after the blessing we took it to their convent, knocked on the door, and delivered it. Mr. Newly Gregarious caught a case of shyness as soon as the nice nuns came to the door and he actually hid behind my skirt, which he hasn't done in some time.

In the afternoon we made Easter Egg Dipper Treats, which was fun.

I was too lazy to use plastic eggs as a mold, so formed mine by hand, which is why they look more like Easter Lump Dipper Treats. Yummy nonetheless!

Last year I went to the four-hour Easter Vigil Mass with infant Mary, but this year I am home with the kids while Chris attends the meaningful and beautiful, yet rigorous, liturgy.
