One day after John spontaneously burst forth with his first stick figure (and later in the day could draw one on request, like it was no big deal), John spelled his name!!!
He's been fascinated with language lately, asking often how words and names are spelled. But he always says things are spelled "H-O-H-O" because those letters are in his name. Also, he's been fascinated with the concept of other languages. I read him Spanish books sometimes and then I'll hear him "reading" a book and using nonsense words. He has experimented with telling me new words for things (words he invents) or telling me that I'm using the wrong word because the right word is such-and-so (another invented word). Clearly, his brain is on the cusp of exploding into new understanding!
This morning John was persistently asking us to spell things for him (then arguing that they were spelled otherwise). He had Daddy write his name for him, then Chris was chatting with me and John announced, "There. I wrote my name." Chris glanced without really looking (because John is often "writing" his name in a long squiggle) and said that was nice. John asked me to look, so I walked over and said, "Chris! Honey! Look!" John had copied his very own name at 3 years and 2 months (tomorrow). He's never traced letters or anything! It's just like some synapse in his brain was created in the last two days. Amazing to me!
wow!
