Hard-Soled Shoes
This afternoon we took a trail walk at a local nature preserve. I wanted to get us out of the house again (in a non-germy way!) while the sun was out and temperature up to about 50 degrees, as cold, heavy rain is expected tomorrow.

This is soo cute! I think it's adorable how both of your little ones balked at having to wear hard soled shoes! Will wore Robeez, or shoes like that, exclusively until he was almost 18 months old and he didn't get upset at hard soled shoes. He walked stiffly while getting used to them, but didn't cry or anything. My friend Leia's son used to cry when she would put him in jeans instead of soft pants when he was about Mary's age!
ReplyDeleteWhen Haley and Kate were little the soft soled shoes were not readily available so if they had to wear shoes for protection it had to be at least semi-hard soled so they were used to them early on. I was really glad Will could wear soft shoes for longer, as you said it is important for the foot while developing.
As a side note, have you tried shoes for Mary from See Kai Run? They are shoes with a real sole, but it is so flexible and thin that the foot can really bend. I bought these for Will until he was over two because they fit so well!
Her look of disgust is hysterical!
ReplyDeleteRachel: Oh, I love See Kai Run shoes! Those and Pedipeds. I yearn for those shoes, but they're ridiculously expensive. I found one pair of perfect used Pedipeds at a consignment sale for about $3, but Mary just outgrew them.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear See Kai Run shoes are good, because I recently bought a pair at our local consignment store. They're a size bigger than Theo wears right now, but I couldn't pass them up! He seems to have inherited his Mama's funky leg/foot issue, so I figure I ought to get the little guy good shoes. It's the least I can do, after passing that on to him. :-)
ReplyDeleteKatherine, I usually just wait for a sale at Nordstrom or the shoe store in Davis and then the shoes are around $26 dollars. I figure two pairs a season of See Kai Run shoes last longer than a couple of cheap Target or Payless shoes that still cost $16 dollars each. Plus, they keep their value better so I can usually consign the dressier pair that he wears less when he is done with them. Of course that also means they would have wear left in them to pass down to another child. I don't like to spend a lot on shoes, either! I have also gotten a couple pairs used for just a few dollars!
