Latest Heights and Weights

Last Wednesday the children received some vaccinations. For poor John, it was the first time he remembered in advance what a "shot" is and what "it will hurt for a moment" means. He quietly hid behind the examining table so I had to get him and put him on my lap for the shot, and then he cried for about two minutes. Thankfully, a lizard sticker and the idea that he could watch Mary get her shot (she cried only about three seconds) calmed him down.

Then little John had what felt to me like a big reaction to the vaccination, although it certainly fell within "normal." For about 48 hours he had a fever, was sleeping a lot extra, and was cranky. Also, he went almost entirely off of food and only just now is starting to eat more. I won't make the mistake again of scheduling vaccinations when Chris is out of town for seven days and I am struggling as it is without a sick child!

John:

Height: 36 inches

Weight: 29 lbs 8 oz

Mary:

Height: 28 inches

Weight: 19 lbs 8 oz

  1. Ugh, I HATE vaccines for that reason! Theo has never had a severe reaction, but he HAS had the general crankiness/malaise, and I just dread it! Which shot was it?

  2. Cathleen: It was Hib, which purtportedly has one of the safest side effect profiles.

  3. I'm so not looking forward to starting up on the vaccines again once Jamie is here. UGH! I'm just so grateful to have a pediatrician who allows us to space them out considerably.

Emma has had a case of "white coat anxiety" for what seems like forever now. It's so sad. Whenever we see her doctor, which is thankfully not often, she just clings to me and practically fights the doctor off. I can't help but think it has a lot to do with having to first have her foot casted at 6 days old. Little Miss does NOT like being messed with.
