Easter Sunday

Happy Easter! I was awake at 6:00 with Mary and to finish Easter preparations. John came downstairs to the family's Easter baskets on his train table.
You can hear on the video John saying "not choke it." The day before, he'd tried to eat one of those Easter egg candies and had choked on it, like he often chokes on food. I actually got teary while filming at the thought of our sweet boy, even declining to eat a candy because, once he chokes on a food, he is gun shy about trying it again.

Also, he calls Easter baskets "hats" and, once I emptied them out, spent much time wearing his basket as a hat.

The gifts in our baskets:

He may be risen ("He is risen indeed!"), but my hot cross buns were not! I put the buns on the table for symbolic reasons, but they were hard as rocks. I ended up making waffles, eggs, and veggie sausage.

Chris went to 10:30 Mass, John napped, and I moved on to making our Easter dinner (lunch). It was nicer than a normal dinner, but somewhat simple since we had no guests: fried chicken (a veggie "griller" for me), mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole (delicious--I used extra sharp aged white cheddar), deviled eggs, and store-bought rolls. (Yes, our son is still wearing his pajamas at one o'clock.)
In the afternoon we had the treat of visiting some new friends for dessert (one of my cinnamon supper cakes) and an Easter egg hunt for the two two-year-old boys. (My friend Sarah has a boy four months older than John and a boy two months younger than Mary.) Mary wore her long-anticipated Easter outfit:

Our hostess' brother brought along his hamster (according to the boys, a "fuzzy mouse"), much to the delight of John and the other two-year-old, Joseph.

The egg hunt in the back yard was a big success. I stuffed 30 plastic eggs with jelly beans, chocolate eggs, and Catholic stickers.

Nearly as exciting as finding eggs was finding a live caterpillar on the bird bath. Joseph called it "Hermie" and John remarked that it was like our book at home. Later the boys went racing through the wooded area searching for a bunny that had been previously sighted.

All in all, a lovely Easter!

  2. So precious, Katherine! My Will thinks that John is Will and Mary is Mary Elizabeth. He is downright insistent about it. lol

It looks like you had a lovely day yesterday. John and Mary are beautiful children. I loved her Easter outfit. :)

  3. John still has the look of a toddler/baby in most photos I see on your blog, but in the one of him opening his presents he looks so grown up, like a boy!! So cute and how fast it happened!
