John has recently begun playing a primitive form of hide and seek, usually with Daddy. One of his favorite places to hide is beneath his train table. Over and over again, he'll hide under the table, call out, "Daddy?" and then Daddy comes and--surprise!--finds him there.
A few days ago, it was Daddy who did the hiding and John was looking for him. Chris hid on the other side of John's bed so when John came into the room, he could hear Daddy calling, "John!" but he couldn't see him. John looked all over, then climbed up on top of the bed. Keep in mind that Chris is just on the other side of the bed, about one foot away from John and within direct line of vision. John hadn't noticed him yet and he sincerely lifted up the quilt on his bed and peeked beneath it to see if Daddy was lying flat as a pancake in the bedsheets.
It was incredibly cute to peer into the developing brain of a two-year-old. Of course, it also makes me wonder how strict and under what circumstances we are to expect John to understand certain rules when his brain is so fresh and new that he thinks an adult man might fit underneath the flat bedding!
How cute! It makes me think about how we, as adults, put limitations on possibilities because we just know certain things won't work or can't happen. Imagine what might happen if the think tanks/creative labs brought in 2-year-olds and watched them play with prototypes, etc. We might see new uses for old inventions or entirely new inventions!
