11/12/08 Mary born: 8 lbs 9 oz, 21-1/8 inches
11/19/08 8 lbs 10 oz
11/26/08 9 lbs 4 oz
12/09/08 10 lbs 15 oz (with diaper and gown)
That is a gain of something just shy of 27 ounces in 13 days, which is almost two ounces per day! If I'm doing my math right, her weight has increased by 27% in four weeks, which blows my mind. Here is our roly poly rosebud herself:
Unfortunately, this rapid weight gain is probably yet one more sign of too much milk. Just like John experienced as an infant, Mary is showing signs of reflux from my milk overproduction. Having been through this before and received so much help from La Leche League leaders and a lactation consultant, I know what to do and am working through the tactics. Still, it's a hassle for me and a pain (literally) for Mary, poor little bugger.
Look at those cheeks! I think you can always tell a BF baby by his or her cheeks! I'm sorry she's having reflux issues. I can't imagine...poor baby. My boys were/are fast gainers too (about a pound a week until 2 months), but thankfully with no spitting or reflux issues. I'm glad you know how to handle it!
ReplyDeleteI think she looks like you Katherine! What a cute chubby face and what a head of hair!! You must be enjoying her. Newborns are so great.
ReplyDeleteoh, I had an oversupply issue with Paul early on -- resulting in gallons (give or take) of spit up. I was going through a dozen burp cloths a day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you and Mary will work it out!
