Playing By Himself

I'm trying to teach John to play more by himself. The combination of my being the only person to interact with him during the day (no siblings yet, Daddy busy working) and his particular personality makes for a child almost-two who is loathe to do much at all without my constant interaction. I'm very, very tired at this point in the pregnancy and am trying to find ways to lie down and rest while supervising my sweet boy. Today we had some success with John "letting" me lie down in the nursery while he played around me--and he didn't scream and wail the whole time. However, the price I paid was that he emptied many of his drawers, book baskets, and cubbie holes, making it look like a tornado hit the room.

At least I was able to shut my eyes and put my feet up!

  1. definitely good you got to rest. Sometimes a little rest is worth a big mess. Just remember this is a season in your life....a season where messes can stay messy for a little longer!! During difficult seasons I try to just keep the parts of the house that other's might see tidy....the upstairs can wait.

  4. Some days, you just have to live among the mess so you don't get too run down. I've had plenty of days where I just sort of kick the disaster off to the side and pretend it's not there.
