In Case of a Girl

We have chosen not to find out the gender of the baby we're having, so it's all a mystery. We own plenty of green, yellow, and blue newborn clothing, but today I bought some feminine pink clothing. (I also bought newborn diapers, which are about the size of appetizer napkins!)
I just about died of a cuteness attack in the store picking out these clothes. We'd be happy with a boy or a girl, but I'll definitely be more happy getting to shop for clothing for a girl, if we have one!

I'm 33 weeks along today. Of course, there is no reason to think I will have the baby early--and my midwife even joked that I'll probably go two weeks late--but it is hard to forget that I gave birth to John at 37 weeks, which would be only a month from now!
It occurred to me today that I still have the tasks of pulling the newborn clothing out of storage, reorganizing the nursery bureau so the clothing can fit there, and washing the receiving blankets. This will be fun!

  1. How cute!! The boy clothes available are much cuter than they used to be, but girls still have the corner on the market for cute baby clothes. Hoping I get to buy some of those someday! :-)

  2. Me too!! Not sure how you can wait so long to find out the baby's gender! I'm bad and have to peek. ;)

Girl clothes are definitely fun to pick out though!!!

  3. I do know what you mean: when your cousin, Mark 2nd, was born, my first reaction was that a girl would've been much more fun to shop for --- then I decided that it'd be less expensive, as there are so many less temptations.

  4. I wouldn't be too disappointed about going a bit late. Early babies even if 100% healthy have problems from having more immature systems (colic, difficulty nursing) - the last thing you need is a difficult infant! I would see going late as a blessing, if you do go late. All my babies were term, and very easy, but Agnes (3? weeks late) has been the best of all.

  5. A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E.!!
A dear friend of mine just had her girl last month - with 4 boys ahead of her!!

I can't wait to hear what you've got, and I can't believe how fast it's going for me ;)

  8. Sarah Faith: I know, early actually isn't great. John was 37 weeks 1 day and I think a good portion of our nursing problems were because his mouth was so small and his sucking reflexes were a few weeks behind. When a baby is gaining half a pound a week, three weeks counts a lot!

  10. Hi Katherine,
I've not been about on the net much, I'm glad to see that you are well and John is thriving.

One bit of advice about when the baby comes, that I received and always found to be true...when newborn baby and John are both crying and wanting you at the same time, go to John first. NB has no concept of time and will see no difference in crying 30 seconds or five minutes, whereas John will know he's been crying a long time.

That advice got me through more than one "OH NO!" moment over the last decade and a half of parenting!

May God bless you and your wee one as you approach this blessed event, the welcoming of a sweet, new baby, into your arms and into your family.
