Movie Date
I feel like I'm entering a sort of extended bachelorette party: I have a few weeks left before the new baby is born and I'm trying to do some fun stuff that new babies prohibit. Just like marriage is the end of some freedoms, but the beginning of many new blessings and privileges, so, too, does a newborn bring unparalleled joys, but many restrictions on life as well. So, this afternoon Chris and I took in a movie while leaving John with his beloved babysitter (as I expect not to see another movie in a theatre for about a year after the new baby is born). As we walked out the door and I gave John kisses, he barely interrupted his eating of macaroni and cheese with the babysitter to cheerfully yell, "bye!" and wave. We saw City of Ember, which was quite good and amazingly clean while being a sci-fi movie and without coming across as sickly sweet, aimed at young children. The only hazard to attending a matinee was tripping over the hoards of four-foot-tall primary school children there to see High School Musical 3!

Wow...you're brave! I think I ended up skipping a bunch of movies the summer I was pregnant. While we had the freedom to go pretty much whenever we wanted, I was a slave to the restroom and didn't want to waste watching a good movie when I was having to make mad dashes to, um, "attend to nature." We had to stick to rentals, which we could pause.
ReplyDeleteEmma does the same thing with her Grandma that John does with his babysitter! Saying goodbye to me is like an afterthought, and she practically shoos me out the door!
Janeane's comment makes me think of the time I was pregnant with someone or other and we went to see Master and Commander. All that water!! And then on top of it we had to sit close to the front and it was so dizzying. It might have been a good movie, but I sure couldn't enjoy it! :-)
