We've been trying to encourage John to drink more water lately--along with our continued attempts to get him to eat anything other than cookies and crackers--to help his intestinal health. We discovered that he will drink way more water if we spray it into his mouth with a little spray bottle, but we're not comfortable with that creative option in the long run because we don't want to teach him to grab the nearest spray bottle he finds (cleaner, poison . . .) and drink out of it. We thought he might like a sports bottle, so I bought him one at the grocery store yesterday. The Spider Man bottle was the only boy version without being covered in flowers or ponies, so I chose that one, but Chris and I are both kind of queasy about how commercial it is. As soon as I can find a plain-colored blue or green one, I'll buy that! Anyway, John is enthusiastic about his new sports bottle and is drinking more than usual.
Note that I'm letting him eat graham crackers again as long as they have peanut butter on them to make a nice protein snack.
After enough times watching John scribble with crayons on paper at restaurants, I set him up yesterday with crayons and paper for the first time. I taped the paper to a flat cardboard box.
Katherine,
ReplyDeleteDo you have an REI nearby??? Emma really likes the sports and Nalgene bottles Jason and I use on our hikes, but she ends up completely soaked when we let her drink out of it for a time. So I found a toddler Nalgene bottle at REI...it has a valve like a sippy cup, so she doesn't end up spilling it all over herself, and it's plain blue.
You should check it out. If you don't have one nearby, let me know. Our REI is right around the corner from us...I can pick one up and send it to you. (I couldn't find it online for you)
Great idea about the sports bottle! I'll have to steal your idea when we are having one of those rough days where sudden surprises or creativity can turn it around.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love their artwork? Great way to recycle a box, too!
Ashley
We've *always* had water bottles in the fridge for the kiddos. And it's wonderful b/c they drink water "all day long". It's something i can say that we honestly did right however many yrs ago we started that.
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny b/c we keep them in the door of the fridge, so everytime the fridge opens Charlie runs over and grabs one of the 6 bottles [since he doesn't have one...yet!]. I just got some new ones at Kroger last week. And it's nice b/c they don't leak and they each have certain colors - for duplicated colors the names are written on them too. I think i need to get a "little" one for Charlie. But as it is...he's got 6!
I, too, cringe at the cartoony theme items! I'm just not fond of any of it. Although there are PLENTY of Spiderman items throughout the house :o) I can't win !
Hope you're doing well!
