First Official Step

There's John's "Letterman gap"!

I wasn't sure earlier what constituted the Official First Step when John twice made a tottering attempt to step toward me, then fell into my legs. But today, John definitely took his Official First Step!

He was cruising along the couch, then reached me at the end of the couch. He stood there, holding on to my knees. He looked toward his push bus toy which was too far away for him to reach with the span of his arms. John studied the situation, then took a slow and steady step with one foot out in the living room. He stepped with other foot so that he was now standing between me and the push toy confidently and without any tottering. Then he stepped out again with one foot at which point he reached the push bus, grabbed it with his hands, and began playing.

John was cool as a cucumber, as if he didn't realize he had done anything special. Meanwhile, I was delighted! I've really seen improvement in balance in the last few days. John can stand alone while holding a toy or even while clapping.

  1. That's wonderful! My 15 month old daughter Ana Catherine has just mastered walking herself. It's so cute in the beginning when they take those first steps!!
