Thomas's Surgery on the Feast of All Souls

Copying posts from CaringBridge to our family blog for posterity . . .

Luggage for the week

Surgery begins

Thomas was in great spirits this morning. We arrived at the hospital at 5:20 a.m., Thomas headed back to the OR at 7:00 (without even Versed because he is so chill!), and at 7:30 he was happily asleep. The surgery should take 3-4 hours.

Out of Surgery

12:40: Thomas is done with surgery, we have spoken with the surgeon, and it went well. We are going back to join Thomas momentarily and will share details later.

November 2, 2021

Thomas is currently in a post operative observation room and we are at his side.  He has opened his eyes a few times and drifted back to sleep.

While the surgeon feels the operation went well, the real test will come with time.  We knew going in that this procedure would set him back during the recovery phase but with a great hope of improvement over time.  Thomas now begins the road to recovery and over time we will see if our hopes are realized

Our expectation is that Thomas will be in the hospital for about seven days.  During this time he will have progressive trials with liquids and food based on what can be tolerated.

We appreciate all the loving notes and prayers.   Please keep them coming as I am sure the days ahead will be challenging for Thomas.

To the degree that the good Lord allows us to offer up Thomas’s suffering, we do so today on the Feast of All Souls for all the Holy Souls.
