Day 122: Heading into Surgery Soon

Duplicated on our CaringBridge site for permanent record here.

Feast of St. Joseph, March 19, 2021, written by Mama

122 days in the hospital: 63 in PICU, 28 in the Oncology ward, 15 at In-Patient Rehab, and 16 back in the Oncology ward.

Daddy had the privilege of spending last night with his boy, Thomas. He enjoyed seeing Thomas incredibly energetic, laughing, inquisitive, and talkative like Daddy hasn't seen since before we came to the hospital.

Before bed, Chris gave Thomas a little catechism session about St. Joseph, in advance of his feast day. They prayed a Litany of St. Joseph, with Thomas answering, "Pray for us." Thomas's great aunt gave him a beautiful framed photo of St. Joseph.

Thomas had a low grade fever yesterday afternoon and a rough overnight with GI symptoms, so this is a reminder to us parents that he has challenging GI problems so easily and this is why we are pursuing this surgery today.

Thomas began St. Joseph's feast day bright and early by doing more art, this time drawing a sketch of St. Joseph with the child Jesus. (Note that St. Joseph is not frowning: that is his mustache, says the artist.)

It is 10:00 a.m. and we are told that Thomas's surgery may be moved up to as early as 11:00 a.m., so I will post this now, requesting prayers, rather than wait till the last second. Our surgeon Dr. B---- dropped by this morning and said, "Today I have my 'A' surgical team, a fantastic anesthesiologist, everybody I want . . . it's like everything is lining up just right for Thomas's surgery." Well, yes, that's probably St. Joseph's orchestration!

St. Joseph, protect our son and guide the surgical team!
