Halloween 2015

Today was a Saturday busy with the final preparations for tomorrow's All Saints Party: final assembly of costumes, preparing our game, making festive signs for our potluck dishes, creating our game--as well as soccer, praying at an abortion mill, and all the regular Saturday chores that eat up the day. Whew!

This year I took a cue from a friend of mine and had the children paint their pumpkins instead of carve them. Also, I decided we'd all be a lot happier if we decorated pumpkins while the toddler and baby were napping. Oh, this made the fun family event a lot more fun with less frustration!

In the evening, we went to a potluck goodbye party to our beloved convent of Poor Clares who are being relocated to another diocese and state. We will miss them!

When we pulled into our neighborhood on our return, trick-or-treating was still in full swing, so Daddy took the 6- and 8-year-olds on their first-ever trick-or-treating while I tucked the tired 2- and 4-year-olds into bed. It took some stealthy parent work to get those kids out on their fun adventure without the younger ones noticing, but we managed it. The older children were so excited and loved the experience.

I'm always interested to read articles on the history of Halloween and Catholicism, so I add this one to my list this year ("It's Time for Catholics to Embrace Halloween" by Fr. Steve Grunow).

  1. What a fun day! I bet the kids loved trick or treating! I'm cracking up at Margaret's grumpy pumpkin! She is such the grump lately.
