Fine Arts Festival: The Concert

Saturday morning found us back at church for the Fine Arts Festival. First we attended the Cantica Sacra Liber (Sacred Songs of Children) as performed by the Children's Polyphonic Schola, directed by Thomas F. Savoy. They performed in the sanctuary a wonderful set of music:

  • Sub tuum praesidium
  • Two Alleluia Rounds
  • O Come, Ye Servants of the Lord
  • Ave Vera Virginitas
  • Two Pieces for Violin (Minuet in G major by Petzold and March in G major by Bach)
  • Regina Caeli, Jubila
  • O Vos Omnes
  • The God of Love My Shepherd Is
  • Resonet in Laudibus

Then the audience moved over to the parish hall for the concert of folk songs given by the younger children (ages 5-9). They sang:
  • two different versions of Ave Maria
  • Land of the Silver Birch
  • The Happy Wanderer
  • Coast of High Barbary
  • I Love the Mountains

Note the two cute girls smack in the middle of the front row (among the youngest in the class): one discovered how to make a heart shape with her hands and took that particular moment to show another girl, and then the girls did it together. What fun! What timing!

After the singing was concluded, we enjoyed a silent auction of all the art pieces done by the children, the proceeds going to raise money for the renovation of our diocesan cathedral. There was a reception with a huge spread of delicious food available as we milled about.

The morning went decidedly well and I'm so proud of all the children involved. (And we were quite glad we were one of the few families not in both casts, so we got to spend the afternoon and evening quietly at home instead of heading right back to church for another Shakespeare performance tonight! Sunday will come soon enough.)
