On Tuesday, John attended the Homeschoolers' Everything Bees Workshop at Latta Plantation.
"Students ages 7-12 can learn all about the world of honeybees! Activities will include visiting the Latta hives, making beeswax candles, playing games, and more!"
Meanwhile, three of us mothers took our other children too young for the course--ten children five and under, including two newborns--to a nearby shaded picnic area and grassy field to play for three hours.
Where else would Mary be found doing nature drawing? High up in a tree! |
We organized a nature scavenger hunt for the children (go find moss, a bird, a vine, sand, etc.). We brought balls, frisbees, and bubbles to blow. The children spent a lot of time climbing trees and playing house as well.
The three-year-old and one-year-old boy had fun throwing frisbees together. |
At one point we found a large, winding black-and-golden centipede. The gaggle of girls rushed over with their nature journals to sketch the insect. The three-year-old boy of the bunch considered the creature and said enthusiastically, "I want to put fire on him!" Boys versus girls!
How fun!
